Let’s do this well - together
This blog has nothing to do with Grandma’s Spoons! I want to create a blog to encourage and support those of us who are self-isolating because of the COVID-19 crisis. My husband. Clive is 72 and I am 68 so we are doing as the Government have asked and distancing ourselves socially for the next twelve weeks or whatever is required.
I’m very aware that many older people are dreading having to stay at home and are concerned about how they will cope with practical things like getting food and medicines, and also about loneliness. I want to do my bit to connecting with you, if you are in that group. I plan to write a short piece every day to encourage you to stay as positive as you can, and we will ALL have days when that is hard to do.
As a Christian, I’m greatly encouraged every day by God’s word, so I will share a Bible verse or two each day and I will also share how Clive and I are keeping ourselves occupied and hope that you will get some ideas for you to try out.
This blog, and indeed the whole website idea is one of the main things I hope to achieve during our ‘confinement’! If you knew how technologically challenged, I am, you would realise what a big deal this is for me. Is there a challenge you’ve been meaning to take up? Well now’s your chance!
I am blessed not to be on my own as some of you may be. However, let’s use all the methods open to us to support one another through the coming weeks and months. Most people have a phone. Don’t wait for others to phone you. Be proactive and check up on friends and family. If you have access to social media like Facebook, Messenger, Skype, What’s App, or even just good old email, why not get in touch with people you haven’t heard from for a while. Reach out!
I do hope you will stop by and read my blog. And please excuse the website. It’s a work in (slow) progress. I’ve used a template which has pictures of vegetables so that will bamboozle people looking for jewellery!
Please pass on the site details to anyone you know who might like to read this blog. And remember, staying at home doesn’t have to mean staying indoors. If you are blessed with a garden, get some fresh air as you have a look at which plants have survived the winter and make some plans for garden tasks as the weather improves. Practicing what the Government call ‘social distancing’ doesn’t mean you have to ‘be distant’ with friends and family. Use whatever means you have to keep in touch with people.
Here is a verse for today, to dwell on, to mull over, and to keep in your heart
“ My presence will go with you and I will give you rest” Exodus 33 verse 14
